After World War II the Yoshida doctrine launched Japan into mass producing many items that were shipped worldwide.
This lovely holiday decoration was hand made in Japan - produced in the 1950’s - 1960’s
Made of felt wrapped cardboard, wood nose and teeth, wire ears and a celluloid hat. Painted face.
We were lucky enough to purchase the estate of a central Florida collector who had a few cases of these incredible ornaments. Hidden away for the last 60 years!!!
As these are hand made each has slight variations. Faces have different angles, sized teeth, color hue, etc... The felt may have some discoloration from age. The white felt sometimes has small spots of foxing, the black felt may have some fading. No two are alike! They all have subtle and wonderful differences!
Incredibly rare, especially in this excellent condition.
