Vintage original 8 x 10 in. US single-weight glossy photograph from the lost 1920s silent film historical drama/thriller, THE PATRIOT, released in 1928 by Paramount Pictures and directed by Ernst Lubitsch. Based upon the play by Ashley Dukes, Paul I, the Emperor of All Russia, becomes the target of a deadly conspiracy.
The image features a close shot of Paul I (Emil Jannings) in a passionate kiss with Countess Ostermann (Florence Vidor). It is in fine- condition as shown.
The Patriot is a lost silent film, as no prints are known to exist. This film was nominated for a "Best Picture" Academy Award for 1929 and, since no complete print of the film seems to have survived, it has the (unfortunate) distinction of being the only film nominated for "Best Picture" to have been lost. However, a single reel survives in the Portuguese Film Archive and has been preserved.
