Classy was the winning bear in an online contest sponsored by Ty that allowed people to design virtual bears online and then vote for a finalist to be produced by Ty. Classy is referred to as the "People's Beanie" because he was designed and elected by the general public. The contest and selection process ran from 1-30 July, 2001.
