Sawtay was a nut based "fat" for cooking just like we use butter or margarine today.  The Company called it "the butter of nuts".  I don't know how long it was around but the "cookbook" is rather ineresting.  It has 79 numbered pages and it is filled with recipes.  Whether the fats of today can be substituted remains to be seen.  It is not in perfect condition but certainly acceptable for such an old cookbook. The front cover has a little tear on the side and there are some blue smudges--maybe from ink  The back cover has a brownish area where it was probably in touch with paper that caused the browning.  It has been in my collection for a long time and it was like that when I purchased it.
