Sam Snead, Patty Berg and club-makers Hall of Famer Bob Mendralla joined the Wilson Advisory Staff by 1947, and directed the company in the production of clubs for years to come. In the1970’s, Wilson Staff introduced more revolutions into the equipment world, including the Dyna-Power, the Fluid Feel and the FG Series blades. By 1983, Wilson clubs were the number one club on the PGA Tour.
Wilson remained the top club throughout the 1980's, introducing the Staff Tour Blade in 1985. This club was introduced alongside the Staff persimmon woods, which featured aluminum face inserts, and went on to become the top woods in golf. The Staff FG-51 was introduced in 1990 and new Dyna-Powered wedges were made by Mendralla, along with a reincarnation of Snead's R-90 sand wedge.
Wilson Power 4 3-9 Irons - 7 Club Set
The Power 4 series is designed in the time-honored tradition of forged clubs, with thin top-lines and sole widths. 8620 mild carbon steel is used for maximum feedback at impact. They reward the play of advanced shot makers, the weighting of the Power 4 progressively moves the CG location from lower in the long irons to higher in the short irons. This is accomplished by concentrating weighting in the sole of the long irons, with cavity back weighting in the set of irons.
Review: "These clubs are really hard to describe. They are my first set of forges irons, and I will NEVER use anything but forged from now on. They may be a BIT harder to hit than clunker cavity backs, but i think you're either on, or off that day. They are pure heaven to use. The combo of workability and playability is excellent! They give you a real appreciation for being able to work the ball. when you are swinging decent, You wouldn't trade for anything. What I did to make them a bit more enjoyable for a mid capper, was to pull the 3 and 4 for a couple hybrids, in the long irons. I had some Cleveland CG14's that I really liked, but I had to get the forged wedges to match the feel of the rest of the irons. Again good move, you WILL want that forged feel in the wedges! They are really good wedges too! Well, to top it off, the price was great, a little over $200. GOLF IS SO ENJOYABLE WITH THESE CLUBS!!"
This set of Power 4 irons are in mostly exceptional condition, there are minimal scratches and dings, the original Scotte Grips have been retained for authenticity, new looking shafts, as well as almost no groove wear.
These will be a great set for many years.
