Vintage original 8 x 10 in. single-weight glossy photograph from the 1920's WWI-themed biopic drama, DAWN, released in 1928 in the UK by Woolf & Freedman Film Service and directed by Herbert Wilcox

The film tells the real-life story of WWI Nurse Edith Cavell (Sybil Thorndike), who helped 210 men escape to England before the Germans apprehended and, tragically, executed her. The image depicts a tender scene and depicts a handsome young wounded soldier in hospital as he gazes upwards at the compassionate face of Nurse Edith Cavell (Sybil Thorndike). It is in fine+ condition.

The former US ambassador to Germany, James W. Gerard, and several American German societies sought an injunction banning the film on the grounds that it would endanger US-German relations. They successfully pressured the Loew's movie chain to ban the film from all its theaters, saying it would "not meet with popular approval."
