This set of two alebrije rabbits was handmade by one of the older generation of this relatively new, but wildly popular style. José (Pepe) Santiago Ibañez is from San Antonio Arrazola, in the state of Oaxaca, Mexico. He and his family have made a tradition of these beautiful copal wood carvings with amazingly detailed, hand painted designs. The rabbit's colors do not match exactly so they are probably from different dates which the sellers did not provide. Please look at the photos carefully to view the obvious damage from age of chips and cracks on both of them. These creations are known as folk art, but each one is unique. The larger one is about 7" tall by 5" long by 4"wide. The smaller one is about 3 and 1/2" tall and long and 1" wide. Let me know if you have any questions.
