The virgin Goddess of Wisdom, Athena became associated with the owl because of the birds existing symbolism and association with knowledge and wisdom. The owl is featured in left-profile relief with two large eyes. Both sides of the coin have a stackable rim design that consists of alternating raised-lowered ledges to ensure easy stacking.
