Comments: An online genealogy search reveals Oliver Van Patten Smith was born December 8, 1898 in Winchester, Massachusetts. He was the son of Frank Patterson Smith (born October 10, 1870 in Lauren, Maryland; and died April 12, 1943) and Harriette Hoyt Marsh (born May 25, 1870 in New Hampshire, and died October 9, 1947). Frank Patterson Smith was a well-known architect who designed many of the elite homes in Winchester, Massachusetts as well as Winchester's Episcopal Church of the Epiphany, and the country club. Oliver was married to Gertrude Rachel Daniels (born May 28, 1900 in Plainfield, New Hampshire; and died in 1929). Oliver had a sister named Harriette Smith (also spelled Harriet in Census records, born ca. 1904) who was a teacher at the Beverly, Massachusetts School for the Deaf. He had two other sisters including Constance Smith (born circa 1897) and Cornelia Mary Smith Moore (born June 8, 1906, m. William James Moore, died June 21, 1998 in Florida.) Oliver was a 1920 graduate of Harvard University. We will be providing some photocopies of our research with purchase.
