1837 221ST NEW YORK INFANTRY OFFICER COMMISSION SIGNED NY GOV WILLIAM L MARCY. Commission for John H Jones Jr as Captain in the 221st Regiment of the NY State Infantry. Signed Feb 10th 1837 by NY State Governor William L Marcy. Also signed by Adj General Allan MacDonald.

Some edge and corner wear, creased in 8ths, light soiling. Good overall for age. It measures 15"w x 9 7/8". Light separations starting on cross folds. A nice find.

William Learned Marcy (December 12, 1786 – July 4, 1857) was an American lawyer, politician, and judge who served as U.S. Senator, Governor of New York, U.S. Secretary of War and U.S. Secretary of State. In the latter office, he negotiated the Gadsden Purchase, the last major acquisition of land in the continental United States.
