The following listing is for a really gorgeous old split ash picnic basket!! This one's just a real beauty! It's made of a lovely honey toned split ash. The basket is double handled, with a hinged lid that lifts to open. The back piece of wood the lid is attached to is nicely chamfered, an extra touch that shows both quality of the work and the meticulous nature of the craftsman who made it. It has a wonderful little brass hook and eye for closing securely. The graining in the strips of ash is exceptional. The inside of the basket is very clean. It still has its insert tray on legs, usually thought of as a pie carrier. To top off this exceptional basket it has a hand painted decoration on the lid. The owner has personalized it with the initials I.M.B. in red, surrounded by red, yellow, blue, and green leaves, which is very pretty. The basket is in very good condition. There are just two small breaks in the weave on one side of the basket, and a bit of a blemish on one of the bentwood handles. The basket measures 12 3/4" front to back, 13" wide, approximately 8 1/4" tall, and about 12 1/2" tall with the handles up. This is just a really beautiful basket and comes from a private home here in the area. The photos do not do it justice! Insurance and tracking are included in the shipping costs.
