As Pankgraf members is called the Old Pankgrafen Association of 1381 to Berlin bey Wedding at Panke (APV), an association in Berlin .

The association is organized nationwide. The abbreviation APV is ambiguous, it stands for Old Pan-Graf Association and Anti-Political Association . The club defines itself as a secular order of knights . His Pankgrafliches headquarters is in Berlin at Gierkeplatz, in the district of Charlottenburg .

The organization's external activities (knight rides) created vassal towns and the offshoots of the Pankgraves.

The legend about the origin of the Pankgrafenorder
The origin of the Pankra Order is a modern myth . According to this self-made legend , the foundation of the APV goes back to the great count Udo with the split claw in the year 1381. At that time, Udo "in association with other righteous knights" in the "memorable battle at Lausefenn" near the village of Pankow at that time put the "predatory rabble" to flight.

Under the leadership of the great count Udo , the "victorious peacemakers" then formed a knightly order , the Pankgrafen Association . In the decades and centuries that followed, they would have provided commercial escort services to traveling traders, thereby contributing to increasing public security "for all citizens and farmers ". "The traces of the Pank County" are lost in the turmoil of the Thirty Years' War.

"The fate prepared Udo a spectacular life [and just such an end. Legend has it that Udo, who is used to fighting and winning at the end of his life out of grief that the river Panke , this wonderful Brandenburg river with its black-green-gray-blue swell, was to be thrown after a drink in full armor plunged into the floods, [...] but unfortunately did not find the desired peace in this mold grave. [Because every 50 years leads him] his gruesome skill back into the earthly world to see whether the water is still there and whether the descendants of his motto well-being - friendship - fatherland have remained faithful. ”( From the chronicle )

This was also the case in 1881. At this "last appearance" of the great count Udo with the split claw "he unfortunately had to find out that this was by no means the case". On the contrary, some of the direct descendants of the knightly Pankgraves were sitting in the usual gigantic pub, which was quite an honor, but they had completely forgotten to put the fatherland above everything. They quarreled about a round table in the North German brewerysitting on Pankestrand around party doctrines and everyone wanted to be right. One longed for the good old days, the other spoke of liberal freedoms, a third believed that he would find salvation in protective tariffs, and one was there, he didn't like the German Reich at all.
When Count Udo heard this shouting and bickering, he appeared in full armor among the arguments who had already looked considerably in the tankard , slapped the table with his fist and commanded them to remember the old motto and act accordingly. He asked them to resurrect the Old Pank County and to breathe new life into it. You should be real Germans, but not petty citizensbe. "Then he disappeared again into the black, green, gray and blue waters of the Panke." ( From the chronicle )

Founding
Initially, there were only a few fighters who founded the Old Pan-Graf Association in 1881 . But this circle of friends soon became an association that was known throughout the country, and of its kind was available to the whole of the German fatherland and proved its vitality even through the horrors of two world wars and great political turmoil.

The founding of the Old Pan-Graf Association took place against the background of the economic and political upswing of the German Empire at the end of the 19th century, the first German economic miracle of modern times, the so-called Wilhelminian style . Added to this was the new political constellation. The goal of the German unification movement, like all other European peoples to live together in a single nation state , was at least partially achieved by the small German solution in 1871. In these years after the founding of the empire , there was euphoria, a spirit of optimism, a certainty for the future among the Germans that gave the Wilhelminian era its name.

This period saw many foundations of patriotic associations. What is special about the Pank County is that it has not quarreled and dissolved internally by renouncing a political and religious commitment, as has happened to most partisan-oriented patriotic associations.

The headquarter of the Pankgrafen, the "castle", was in the early 20th century in Schloßstraße 6 (today's Ossietzkystraße) in Pankow near the Panke at the castle park in Niederschonhausen. The location with natural garden and ballroom offered space for 4000 guests.

In the district of Pankow in the districts of Karow and Pankow, the Pankgrafenstraße were named after the association.

Coat of arms, motto and structure of the association
The coat of arms colors of the APV are black, green, gray and blue.

The coat of arms shows a shield in these colors. The coat of arms appears in two variations: either with a visor helmet with feather bush lying on the shield or with a gold crown placed on the upper edge of the shield . Both coats of arms stand side by side on an equal footing. The coat of arms of Brandenburg , the red eagle, is also used in the APV. The motto of the Pankgraves is: "Wellbeing - Friendship - Fatherland "

The APV is non-profit through the funding

of homeland thought
the connectedness of German cities and regions and their population among themselves
the preservation and maintenance of the tradition of Berlin and German history , including the collection and replication of objects and documents from the past
Maintenance of German songs and music
and in particular the material support for people in need
The Barnajadenbund eV, a sub-organization of the APV, is used for the proper recording of donations.

He oversees the business and administration of the association's assets, convenes the board and college of the grand commander, chairs the assembly and arranges for the resolutions to be implemented, and can delegate tasks to his two deputies, who also represent him in his absence.

The Grand Master is assisted by an adjutant himself , the first and second deputies, and the governors of the vassal cities. The official part of the evening in the evening is characterized by the disciplined behavior of the friends in the Grand Master's performance and in the artistic performances. The column leaders are responsible for the order in their columns.
The call sign for the opening or reopening of the office must be followed immediately.
Later entrants remain waiting at the entrance during a speech or lecture.
Female persons are strictly prohibited from entering the Remters and its adjoining rooms during and after official events.
Entering the Remter in his coat at all times enforces a so-called pancreatic punishment.

In the Kumperkaten lesson, as with all other greetings by the Grand Master (birthdays etc.), all friends stand up without being asked when the honored person steps in front of the Grand Master's table. After the award, all friends toast to the honored and congratulating in front of the high master's table.

Association celebrations
Religious festival Pancratius
The Pankgraves call May 12th the Pankratiustag and celebrate their religious order. On this day, awards are given, promotions to commander or grand commander made and Kumperkaten appointed Pankgrafen . The final part of the festival is public. Pancratius is the highest holiday in the year of the Pancrats. Many songs and customs of the Pankgraves deal with this day.

Pankgrafisches Eisbeinessen
Every year in November, the "Pankgrafliche Eisbeinatzung" takes place (quotation from Degenhard's chronicle). This event is reserved for men only, women are not permitted to enter the hall.

Knight rides
The list of knightly rides includes over 100 city names, the 100th city led the Pankgrafen 2007 to Braubach am Rhein. The trips begin in 1881 with a knight's trip to Bernau , as in 1994 again. The counting of the trips goes naturally to the "Old Pank County 1381 from Wedding an der Panke near Berlin". In 2010 the 631st Knight's Ride took place as a friendship trip to Hoxter. However, some of these knights rides ended instead as a special event with disagreements. In 1959, a "knight's journey to conquer the heart" to Ansbach was planned, and in the end it was a bitterly controversial argument about suspicion of perjury. Some congregations use the knights' rides to gain self-worth: “In 1924, the Pankgraves from Berlin conquered Lychen during their knightly rides . Because of the island's location, it was considered difficult to take the city by land. It was decided to come from Fürstenberg across the water. " Excerpts from other descriptions from the" degenhardt's chronicle " can be found on the" homepage "of the Pankgrafen.

According to tradition, the history of the Pankgraves goes back to the Middle Ages, that is to say in the times of the robber barons and the feudal. The traces of the Pank County can be traced until 1381. In an old Landsknecht song from the Hussite wars in the 15th century, Pankgraves were sung. Under the turmoil of the Thirty Years' War, the traces of the old Pank county were increasingly lost until they were revived in 1881. Most of the Pankgrave lived in Wedding and Reinickendorf around 1900, but also in Pankow, always close to the Panke.

Around 1900 there was the "Zum Pankgrafen" restaurant with a river bath on the banks of the Panke at Schloßstraße 6 . The association of the Pank County from 1381 wanted to choose this inn as their ancestral home. Pollution of the Panke by sewage soon forced this bath to be closed, and the Pankgraves also withdrew.

So-called "knight rides" were and still are carried out by the Pank county. There are other places visited, which always has the character of a festival.

The motto of the Old Pank County from 1381 is: "Well-being, friendship, fatherland!" Motto 1904: "Faithful to the emperor and empire; care for charity!"
