The LORIOLI MEDAGLIE and the medal: a century-long adventure.
Founded in 1919 by two brothers, Philip and Michael, the Lorioli starts producing in the small headquarters in Via Francesco Anzani, number 3, in Milan, where he will open a laboratory for the minting of medals. Solid is the professionalism of Philip, engraver steel from the early twentieth century, both of Michael, which exerts its activity in jewelery since 1904. The abbreviation FML, the initials of the founders, will distinguish the company's production up to the fifties . The beginnings had seen the competition also Riccardo Castelli, expert engraver and modeller.
The activity is aimed initially at medals related to the events of World War I, to which are added coinage of sporting character and then to address the field of commemorative editions and finally medals designed for events of national resonance. In 1923, in order to cope with the substantial increase in orders, the company moves its headquarters in Via Bronzetti, number 25, in a new structure which includes the facilities, offices and homes of the owners. These were years of impetus due to the large spread that the medal obtained during the Fascist period. In 1928 the death of Philip Lorioli and the withdrawal of his brother Michael, the conduct of the business is assumed by the new generation composed of Arturo and Edgardo, sons of Philip, and by Walter, son of Michael. Their commitment is focused on the improvement of departments and project modeling, and the creation of an adequate commercial network.
The Second World War leads to a slowdown in production which is reduced in August of '43, when the plant is severely damaged by bombing. The war involves a reorganization of the business and the building of a new and larger sales network. It is a particularly sensitive period for reasons both internal and external to the company: in 1946 dies prematurely Edgardo Lorioli shortly after his cousin Gualtiero withdraws from his commitment to the company; change the methods and concepts of processing; changes the market situation. The guide is taken from Arturo Lorioli, which collaborates with Franco Savoia for the commercial sector and Giovanni Amati for the administrative one.
In the early fifties become part of the executive Vittorio Lorioli, son of Edgardo, Philip and Giampaolo, descendants of Arturo. The Lorioli is transformed from a partnership to a corporation, has consolidated its position through the acquisition of a Rome-based agencies in major Italian cities and some representations abroad. Being necessary the expansion and rationalization of production departments, in 1959 began construction of the new plant in Cernusco sul Naviglio which was inaugurated the following year. The disappearance of Arturo Lorioli in 1965, the third generation Lorioli is professionally and logistically able to continue the family business. Is enhanced production of traditional workmanship and start specialized fields, such as multiples of art, intensifying collaboration with artists and relationships with collectors. The Lorioli part in the main events and national and international exhibitions of the coin. Indicative is the award of the prize in 1983 AIAM (Italian Association of Medal), an association that brings together artists, publishers and lovers of the coin. In 1990 the members of the family Lorioli transferred the company and the production of the plant is diversified. The workings of the field of numismatics cease in 1994. Vittorio Lorioli remains in the industry as a consultant and as a researcher making an important contribution to studies of the coin. He works among other things, the magazine "Numismatic Chronicle." In 1996 has increased the medal of the Historical Museum of Bergamo with a thousand medals of historical interest from 1919 onwards. In 1995 he registered at the Accademia Carrara in Bergamo 150 medals made by the Company of the family who, together with the concomitant donation of Caesar Johnson, build the initial core of the Collection of Contemporary Medals of GAMEC. In 2005 enriches the donation Lorioli with over a hundred models and bronzes copyright.
In memory of Vittorio Lorioli 1930-2012

Alassio is a town and comune in the province of Savona situated in the western coast of Liguria, northern Italy, approximately 80 kilometres (50 miles) from the French border.
Alassio is known for its natural and scenic views. The town centre is crossed by a pedestrianized cobbled road known as the Budello.
The town has sandy beaches, blue sea, and many bars and restaurants on the sea front. Alassio has also a pier known as "Molo di Alassio" or "Pontile Bestoso" which offers views of the town.
Alassio is situated on the Riviera di Ponente coast, and it has a small tourist port (porticciolo) named "Luca Ferrari". It is also a health resort in winter and a bathing place in summer and has many hotels.
The Italian Riviera, or Ligurian Riviera (Italian Riviera ligure) is the narrow coastal strip which lies between the Ligurian Sea and the mountain chain formed by the Maritime Alps and the Apennines. Longitudinally it extends from the border with France and the French Riviera (or Cote d'Azur) near Ventimiglia (a former customs post) to Capo Corvo (also known as Punta Bianca) which marks the Eastern end of the Gulf of La Spezia and is close to the border with Tuscany. The Italian Riviera thus includes nearly all of the coastline of Liguria. (Historically it extended further to the west, through what is now French territory as far as Monaco.)
History
The Muretto of Alassio with 550 tiles signed by celebrities.
Alassio is thought to have been founded in the 10th Century, in the area of "St Anna ai Monti Church" where a family nucleus first resided, then subsequent members moved in the hilly area of "Madonna delle Grazie" which is still known with the name "Caste'". Here one of the first Heraldic symbols of the town is still visible.
Control of the town was eventually taken by the monks from the island of Gallinara and later by the commune of Albenga. In 1521 a series of defensive walls was built to defend the town from Barbary pirate raids. It was subsequently a possession of the Republic of Genoa and, from the early 19th century onwards, of the Kingdom of Sardinia. It became part of the Kingdom of Italy in 1861.
Alassio became a tourist resort in the late 19th century, thanks to the presence of English tourists.
