Brand new factory sealed vhs tape has a running time of 171 minutes. If this is true, then this is the original cut with overture, intermission/entr' acte music. Special feature before the movie is the original trailer. This is the pan & scan full frame version which is perfect for old school televisions as the image will fill your square frame. The audio is more robust than its digital counterpart too.
Narrated by Orson Welles, its the life of Christ, intelligently told and beautifully filmed in Technicolor. Jeffrey Hunter (Star Trek's first captain) is Christ in a movie some critics called "I Was a Teenage Jesus" (even though Hunter was the right age, his mid-30s). Also in the cast are Hurd Hatfield as Pontius Pilate, Robert Ryan as John the Baptist, and Rip Torn ('Men in Black') as Judas. Future horror star Paul Naschy was an extra.
Like the 'Last Temptation of Christ', it was denounced as blasphemous, which is ludicrous, its actually full of deeply moving moments such as the Sermon on the Mount (the scale is huge with 7,000 extras), Christ's healing of the lame, and many others. Also with Viveca Lindfors, Royal Dano, and Siobhan McKenna as Mary.
