I spent about 5 minutes trying to test.  The needle moved but not not the way one would expect when exposed to light.  The unit MIGHT just need new batteries.  No batteries are included with this sale, so the unit will not work out of the box.  Please look closely at photos - this is the exact item you are purchasing. If you don't see something in the photos, it is not included.
