Floods have shaped Mifflin County since the earliest times. Many residents now living recall shch disasters. Tropical Storm Agnes dropped 12 inches of rain over much of central Pennsylvania at the end of June 1972, as the Juniata River raged through Central Pennsylvania. 2022 marks the 50th anniversary of the natural disaster that would result in millions of dollars worth of damage in residential areas, and ultimately close Mifflin County’s major industry, the American Viscose Plant.  Floods of 1889 and 1936 were both major floods of the Juniata River and are detailed in this year’s calendar throughout the 12 photographic offerings.
