FEATURES:
METHODS & MATERIALS: FROTTAGE--RUBBING THINGS THE RIGHT WAY by Carmi Weingrod, More commonly known as rubbing, the ancient art of frottage is still very much alive today. And, as everyone from conservators to collage artists knows, this process for transferring textures has many applications.

JIM WATSON: CONTEMPORARY IMPRESSIONIST by Laurie S. Hurwitz. "I see myself as a contemporary Impressionist," explains this Virginia artist, "because I paint from nature and because I want my paintings to explode with light and color." THE WATERCOLOR PAGE: STUDYING AMERICAN WATERCOLOR TRADITIONS by Kristina Feliciano. Many artists avoid galleries and museums, afraid that others' work will unduly influence their own. But Illinois artist Sandy Meyer asserts that only by understanding what other artists have done can she move ahead in her own painting.

CLARIFYING YOUR COLOR byJeanette Le Grue. Color is one of the most essential elements an artist has to grapple with. It's also one of the most elusive and challenging. Here are some of my methods for properly identifying and depicting the various colors and color relationships I observe in my subjects.

THE PASTEL PAGE: CREATING AUTOBIOGRAPHICAL ALLEGORIES ON MAT BOARD by Stanley Marcus. Sheila Bohanon starts her paintings by thinking of an image and ends up depicting a very personal tale. But despite her emotional attachment to her subjects, she has developed an extremely well-organized process for producing her often whimsical images.

1996 DIRECTORY OF ART SCHOOLS & WORKSHOPS This is our 33rd annual directory, the most comprehensive compilation of its kind.
