CAB Comment––The many watercolor and black-and-white sketch illustrations by Jon Corbino, in this rare 1945  edition of “Gulliver’s Travels” are truly fantastic.  They alone are worth owning a copy of this book (and I do have one on my own shelf, so I speak from the heart).  As for the text content, most everyone knows the basic story of Gulliver and the Lilliputs, but this is only the first in four parts that, although fanciful, are in no way mere children’s tales of fantasy.  My reading of Swift’s complete “Gulliver’s Travels” was a real eye-opener.  I found the book absolutely brilliant in its satire of the human condition and especially in relation to the aristocracy and governing powers.  Originally published in 1726, “Gulliver’s Travels” profundity and commentary on the human world––the realm of the “Yahoos”––is just as terrifying and accurate today.  It seems people do not change, only technology does and the methods of execution of common daily drudgeries.  This should be required reading for all ages and in all ages.  PLEASE NOTE: That this edition only contains Parts I, II, & III of the complete “Gulliver’s Travels”; this is likely due to the fourth part being satirically above the heads and appreciation of a younger readership.

“Gulliver’s Travels”––GoodReads Synopsis:
“Shipwrecked and cast adrift, Lemuel Gulliver wakes to find himself on Lilliput, an island inhabited by little people, whose height makes their quarrels over fashion and fame seem ridiculous. His subsequent encounters - with the crude giants of Brobdingnag, the philosophical Houyhnhnms and the brutish Yahoos––give Gulliver new, bitter insights into human behaviour. Swift's savage satire views mankind in a distorted hall of mirrors as a diminished, magnified and finally bestial species, presenting us with an uncompromising reflection of ourselves.”

Please remember: All books offered by Texas POEtrope are in need of a loving new home, and (other than C.A. Broadstone autographed works) have had previous owners, resulting in relative wear.  Thus, some books possess more interesting scars telling of their journey through the world, and life, than others.  Please study book pictures closely to be sure the book(s) shown are for you.  Every book with a dust jacket has been carefully placed in a BroDart protective archival cover.  All sales are final.
