Hendrik Breedveld (1918 - 1999):
Hendrik Breedveld was born at Sliedrecht, Holland on the 24th of March 1918. He studied at the "Zeichenschule" in Rotterdam. After graduating from this school he was employed by the Rijks-Museum as a restorer and there he got acquainted with the style and technique of the old Masters such as Breughel, C. Leickert, Adrian Schelfhout and many others. Consequently his own style was developed into this fine conservative way and he is now known as one of the most outstanding successors of the great Dutch Masters of former centuries.
The collection of the Rijksmuseum consists of 1 million objects and is dedicated to arts, crafts, and history from the years 1200 to 2000. Around 8,000 objects are currently on display in the museum.
The collection contains more than 2,000 paintings from the Dutch Golden Age by notable painters such as Jacob van Ruisdael, Frans Hals, Johannes Vermeer, Jan Steen, Rembrandt, and Rembrandt's pupils.
Breedveld had a wide array of subject material, from wildlife to old world Dutch village scenes. His works show a variety of influences from impressionism to the abstract. He has had numerous exhibits in the Netherlands as well as other European countries, and his works hang in a variety of museums and private collections.. ==
