Barry Sullivan delivers a knockout performance as Shubunka, a cynical gangster who controls the Neptune Beach waterfront. Shubunka has it all. He runs a numbers racket with the local soda shop owner (Akim Tamiroff); the police are in his pocket; and the local hoods are on his payroll. He also has a beautiful showgirl (Belita) stashed away in a luxury apartment. Cornell (Sheldon Leonard) is trying to muscle in on the action. He's willing to use terror and murder to get it.
