Here, for your consideration, is a 100% COMPLETE Fisher Price LP #934 Play Family Western Town in NEAR MINT- MINT condition! Produced between 1982-84, the set originally consisted of 19 pieces. To add to the fun, I've also included 3 extra FP characters and one RARE, hex dog.
Comprising this play set, you have the main Western Town play base which depicts a hotel on one side and a livery stable and sheriff's office on the other side. The lithos on the playset are ROBUST and INTACT. None of the lithos display any marks, stains, or tears. Other than some dust, I only detected the following aberrations:
1. Three bubbles on the "Fisher-Price" logo on the Western Town litho. There is also one, pin-head size rub on the lower margin of the litho under the "W" in "Western." If you hold the base up to within 3" of your eyes and rotate it in the light, you can capture the faint suggestion of a couple of vertical, hair-line creases. Otherwise, they're invisible. The rest of the litho is FLAWLESS!
2. One, hair-line crease 1 3/4" on the Hotel litho;
3. One, extremely thin, vertical crease to the left of the saddle on the Dentist litho and a handful of tiny bubbles above, adjacent, and next to the exit chute on the same litho;
4. One, pin-head size rub towards the left of the Blacksmith litho along with one miniscule bubble over the "C" in "Blacksmith; also, one, nearly invisible tiny bubble on the same litho towards the right edge of the litho;
5. Two miniscule bubbles (<1/8" L) to the left of the Sheriff Office litho along with one larger, bubble (1/4" L x 1/8" W) under the "HE" in "Sherriff" and a 1/4" scratch under the "FF" in "Office);
6. Three tiny bubbles (<1/8" L) on the Depot litho.
That's it! These bubbles and creases are only noticeable upon close scrutiny (e.g. holding the base up to within 3" of your eyes and rotating it in the light). These "imperfections" DEFINITELY do not detract from the overall appearance of the piece. I would consider these lithos to be in NEAR MINT-MINT condition. The colors are robust and the lithos are clean, smooth, and bright.
The plastic surfaces are GORGEOUS! There are no chips, cracks, dings, abrasions, fading, discolorations, or breaks anywhere on this piece. There are a few faint surface scratches on the brown walkway but these are few and far between and have not marred the finish in any way.
The moving sidewalk functions smoothly when the crank is turned, propelling the characters towards a chute where they tumble down to the ground. The trap door deposits the characters inside the livery stable. The hinges on the roof over the livery stable and sheriff's office are intact. The roof lifts up to store the contents of this set inside the base. All in all, I would deem this base to be in NEAR- MINT-MINT condition.
The accessories are all here and include:
1 VHTF orange-colored stagecoach (EXC+++-NEAR MINT condition; some rust on rear axle; I'm confident the latter will come off w/an application of Naval Jelly; couple of teensy indentations on coupling hook; may be due to some child's teeth; I can't tell for sure; these are EXTREMELY hard to see);
1 EXTREMELY RARE red stagecoach roof (NEAR MINT--few faint surface scratches; barely visible; NOTE: these roofs alone can cost up to $20.00-$25.00 and up IF you can even find one);
1 VHTF green buckboard (EXC-- minimal rust on axles; should come off w/Naval Jelly; "board" extending upwards on left side has been broken off; just now realized this; not sharp to the touch so doesn't pose any danger to a child; some light swirling of the plastic on the rear of the wagon; this appears to have been caused during the manufacturing process);
4 HTF pieces of wood-grained fence (NEAR MINT-- a couple of teensy indentations on the inside edge of one of the pieces (e.g. specifically the far left hand pole towards the bottom); virtually invisible; maybe a "porcupine" chewed on it but more likely some child sampled it; rest of fence pieces are MINTY MINT; NOTE: this is the wood-grained style fencing that was UNIQUE to this set);
2 RARE brown harnesses (1 MINTY MINT; other VG++--displays a few minor "nibbles" on harness; this harness is slightly bowed);
1 EXTREMELY HTF brown saddle (NEAR MINT- MINT);
1 VHTF gray crate (NEAR MINT--faint scratches; not prominent at all);
1 HTF round green suitcase (MINTY MINT);
1 BLACK STALLION (NEAR MINT-MINT-- tight joints and all facial features intact; has BOTH EARS! Coat, mane, tail, white stockings are all SHINY; this horse LOOKS BRAND NEW!);
1 BROWN MARE (EXC++-NEAR MINT; firm joints; wonderful markings; has BOTH ears and tail; NO chews on either of these horses; coat on flanks a triffle duller than body and head; some minor wear to edges of hooves; stress fracture observed at the base of this horse's left ear; does not appear to be in any danger of breaking; BEAUTIFUL specimen);
and 4 ALL PLASTIC figures UNIQUE to this set. These figures consist of:
1 HTF Native American Chief w/black or navy blue (I can never tell which) breastplate and red trim to bonnet; bonnet also displays @75% of original silver trim on sides; this is EXTREMELY RARE to find; most of these bonnets have lost this silver trim over time; several teethmarks on Chief's body; the most prominent are on the right side of his breast plate and on his rear shoulder; still an INCREDIBLE piece (VG+++-EXC);
1 VHTF red Cowboy with black hat and moustache (MINTY MINT);
1 RARE blue bodied Sheriff with orange star and 10 gallon hat (NEAR MINT--slight roughness to edge of hat brim; one possible toothmark along upper edge of right side of hat; rest of piece is MINTY MINT); and
1 VHTF yellow bodied Western lady with brown bun and green hat (NEAR MINT--little roughness to edge of hat brim but no visible CHEWS).
To add to the fun, I've included 3 other FP LP. These include:
1 EXTREMELY RARE, red bodied cowboy with yellow cowboy hat and white scarf (VG-VG++--"nibbles to hat's crown and brim; also a couple of shallow "nibbles" on side of cowboy's head;
1 RARE tall, green bodied, clean shaven cowboy with ten gallon hat and yellow scarf (EXC--one scratch on left side of hat brim; also, some slight wear around edge of hat brim; no CHEWS);
1 HTF, tall, yellow bodied lady with white bun (MINT)---after all, what genteel young Western lady could travel without a companion?); and
1 EXCEEDINGLY RARE, dark brown, white, black, and light brown hex dog (VG-VG+--has a crack at the root of his tail; I'm going to try and repair this with rubber cement but due to its location and extent, I doubt if it will hold up to vigorous handling; would make a great display piece, however). For those of you who don't know what a "hex" is, it's a type of screw in the belly of the animal. When you see one of these, you know it's one of the oldest pieces Fisher Price ever made. This one went with the 1973/74 edition of the FP #915 Farm play set; this was the only year that I know of that had the dog with one, dark brown leg, black ears and tail, and black facial markings along with white spots and a light brown color).
I've taken great pains to describe everything in minute detail. I'm being "nit-picky" so that no one will be disappointed. Most of my customers find that my merchandise vastly exceeds their expectations and my descriptions.
I spend anywhere from 1 1/2-5 hours cleaning each and every Vintage FP play set that I sell (except those originating in My Rough Room). My sets are IMMACULATE!
NOTE: THIS VINTAGE FISHER PRICE PLAYSET IS NOT PART OF THE CURRENT FP RECALL! THIS PLAYSET WAS MANUFACTURED IN THE GOOD OLD U.S.A.
DUE TO SOME SMALL PIECES, THIS PLAYSET SHOULD NOT BE GIVEN TO A CHILD WHO IS STILL MOUTHING THEIR TOYS.
