VOYAGES was the second of the DOCTOR DOLITTLE books and was the second book to win the Newbery Medal (for Best Children's Book of 1923). It is much longer than the first book , though just as charming, and it introduced some of the series' regular characters. This is the 27th Impression of the first edition-- it's rather hard to date these, but, from some clues I found, it seems to have been printed between 1945 and 1950. It almost exactly resembles the first printing, even including the cover pastedown , illustrated end papers and the tissue guard on the Frontispiece, which is one of two color plates; there are also 18 full-page black and white illustrations, all by the author. For a 70+ year old children's book, this copy is very well preserved. One bent cover corner, two more with light fraying, slight back cover blemishes, slight soling on page edges, slight edge wear on pastedown, an owner's inscription on the ffep and an erasure of a previous seller's price on a blank page. Tight binding. No dust jacket. Pages are in excellent condition, with no observed creases and no writing/marking on printed pages Toning is mainly confined to the inner margin. A lovely copy of this children's classic.
