In 1984, the presidential candidate for the Democrat Party was former U. S. Vice President WALTER MONDALE (also former U. S. Senator from Minnesota), with U. S. Congresswoman GERALDINE FERRARO from New York as his running mate, making Ferraro the first woman from the two major American political parties to be nominated as U. S.
