WTCN-TV began broadcasting in 1949 in the Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota area, as a non-affiliated network television station, and much of its early broadcasting schedules reflect a concentration on "do it yourself"-style TV shows, with an admixture of old movies, local sports, and inexpensive syndicated television re-runs.  This schedule of WTCN-TV offerings for the February-March 1963 period, indicates the weight that the station placed on such popular, cultish "work-horse" re-run programs such as ONE STEP BEYOND and SEA HUNT (each televised FOUR times within the week), plus local college football and professional wrestling (including a photo of local champion wrestler VERN GAGNE).  And, finally, this brochure demonstrates how much many small, independent TV stations of the 1950s and early 1960s, depended upon filling their broadcast schedules with old movies, particularly B-movies, and even silent films.  The middle sheet of this brochure offers broadcast schedules (featuring photos of lobby cards) of 28 films that were televised on WTCN-TV during the months of February-March 1963, including:  THE NEVADAN; RETREAT, HELL!; THE DAMNED DON'T CRY; LARCENY; THE WILD ONE; BLOOD ALLEY; BATTLE STATIONS!; THE BIG HEAT; CONQUEST OF COCHISE; WE WERE STRANGERS; TAKE A LETTER, DARLING; CHICAGO SYNDICATE; UNION PACIFIC; THE LADY IN QUESTION; THE BLACK KNIGHT; BOMBARDIER; THE JOLSON STORY; TOKYO JOE; THE LIVES OF A BEGAL LANCER; SINCERELY YOURS; THE FLAME AND THE ARROW; SAFARI; DUEL IN THE SUN; STRANGERS ON A TRAIN; THE LOST WEEKEND; BACKFIRE; MY SIX CONVICTS; and THE PLAINSMAN.
