Rare 19th century travelogue of Japan. Dixon resided in Japan for 4 years as the Professor of the English Language and Literature's chair in the Imperial College of Engineering in Tokyo. He returned to Scotland in 1880 and wrote his impressions of Japan in this book. Includes 21 woodcut illustrations by F. Bayne and a 2-page map of the country.  

Bound in green cloth boards with gilt-stamped illustration of a pagoda and the rising sun and gilt spine titles. Decorative endpapers. 689 pages + advertising. 7.5" x 5.5".
