Illustrated by Steven Kellogg
New York: The Dial Press, (1979).
First edition, first printing.
Contains publisher's 'first printing' statement.
Inscribed with a drawing of a heart, a star and a portrait of Pinkerton and SIGNED by the author/illustrator to the front endpaper.
The first installment in Kellogg's zany adventure series featuring a Great Dane dog named Pinkerton.
In this debut, Pinkerton thwarts a would-be burglar with a gun, while obeying the command 'fetch', and heroically protects and defends his home with the mother and daughter.
In the later re-issue of this tale, Kellogg omits the burglar's gun.
A delightful dog tale based on the author's own dog.
Nice! Slight rubbing to shelf-edges, lower corner tips bumped, else very good in color illustrated boards, in a lightly rubbed, very good plus dust jacket, with slight rub-wear to the corner tips and to the upper and lower spine edges; original $7.95 price still intact to the front inner flap.
Presentable and enchanting.
Square Octavo.
