Frontispiece and three internal plates by Charles Paxson Gray on coated stock.
Philadelphia: The John C. Winston Company Publishers, (1915).
First edition: Second issue (circa 1920).
Tan cloth with front panel illustration of a baseball player in brown and red, crossed bats and catcher's mitt insignia to the spine, cover lettering red, spine lettering in red and black; in pictorial dust jacket.
Unrepaired tear to the lower margin of page 107, Christmas, 1924 gift inscription to the front endpaper, otherwise a very good plus to near fine, tight copy; in a very good plus, white dust jacket with the cover illustrated replicating the front cover of the book. Small chip to the upper rear panel, tiny chips to the spine ends, and the jacket shows some soiling.
According to Mattson & Davis this is a copy in second issue with the baseball uniform in brown instead of white.
First book, in the three book Jimmy Kirkland baseball series, by the noted journalist who has been credit with exposing the "Black Sox Scandal" of 1919.
