Papp, a director and producer established Public Theater in a building in lower Manhattan creating a year-round producing home to focus on new plays and musicals, from where he produced the Pulitzer Prize winning musical, CHORUS LINE.

In this work Turan interviewed one-hundred-sixty famous actors, directors and playwrights, forty of which passed away before this book was published.

An important cultural and theater history told through the testimonies of those who witnessed and participated in it.
Some of the luminaries included are Meryl Streep, George C. Scott, Peter Rabe, Martin Sheen, James Earl Jones, Linda Ronstadt, Coleen Dewhurst, John Guare, Tommy Lee Jones, and so many more.
