You can argue about whether the "Tulips" are the outline of its leaves or its cup-shaped flowers. Both undoubtedly contributed to the name given to this tree by early settlers. The tulip tree is still beloved for its beauty today, serving as the state tree of Kentucky, Indiana and Tennessee. It is the tallest of the eastern hard woods, if you are looking for a stunning tree that grows quickly and does not suffer from many pest problems your search is over! Blooms in May-June producing tulip shaped flowers with greenish yellow petals and a splash of orange at the base. Its foliage provides vibrant yellow color in fall and are just stunning. The spring flowers provide nectar for ruby-throated humming birds. Tulip tree seeds mature in summer and last into winter, providing food for both birds and mammals. These grow to heights of 70-90' in height and a spread of 40' at maturity, grows at fast rate, with height increases of more than 24" per year. Grows in full needs at least 6 hours of unfiltered sunlight per day. Prefers normal moisture but can tolerate drought in HUMID regions. Hardy in zones 4-9. We do not ship to ARIZONA .
