This a a television lamp. When people had console televisions they placed a small lamp that was lit from behind on top of the tv to give a little light in the room and they were called rv lamps. I recall having one in our home in the 1950's although I think this one is from the 1940's looking at the cord. It needs to be rewired because it is taped at this point. I did not try it because it is unsafe to do so. It has an appliance sized bulb in it which will not be included with the purchase. It is 13 inches high and 6 3/4 inches wide and 4 1/4 inches deep. I showed a picture of the wiring so a potential buyer could see that it is simple to rewire--no threading of a long cord, etc. The lamp is a perfect night light for your family room or media room.  It has no chips--I ran my hand over the entire piece. It is shiny in places and dull in places so there may need to be a shiny finish applied although I like the patina. A number of places where the piece is recessed there is a blue hue which I believe is original to the piece.
