Kasmiri Aree (or Aari) Embroidery is a type of two-handed chain-stitch or crewelwork from the Kashmir region of India. It uses a long hooked needle and wooden frame, and the needlework covers every square inch of the cotton canvas base fabric. Open background areas are filled in with concentric rings of stitches (these are so tight and even that they may appear machine-made). The completed item is attached to a thick cotton canvas back.
