Mistaken for her cousin, Roxy Zoller, Judy Bolton learns from Roxy's boyfriend, Hugh, that Roxy and her father had been in a plane crash, but are home. Hugh is concerned because Roxy broke a date with him. When Judy calls Roxy's house, Roxy seems remote and gives vague answers to Judy's questions. Then Judy receives an early Christmas present from Roxy, marked to be opened before Christmas. Enclosed is a note that makes Judy believe Roxy wants to secretly change places with Judy. Judy travels to Roxy's house and climbs a ladder into her bedroom. Roxy reveals she and her father are being held prisoners at the house. Roxy leaves to alert Peter while Judy must fool the criminals until help can arrive.
