I inherited this Mom and Baby cloth doll from my Mother when she had to go into an assisted living apartment.  My sister and I believe Mom could have made it by hand when my sister, Lonna, was 3 (she is now 76).  Mom sewed all of us kid's clothes and probably had the material left over and didn't want to toss it out.  I got my hoarding from her.  The Mom doll has black yarn hair which looks curly.  Her face is all hand sewn and even her ears are crafted in the head.  The dress is of flowered material with raised dots on it.  There is pink ribbon on her neck (needs to be tacked down or glued) as it is open in the back.  The waist is made thinner by a white trim with a pink ribbon running through it.  The hands are constructed of 3 stitches to make it look like fingers.  Under the long dress is a petty coat made of linen goods.  It was probably a napkin that had a stain on it and Mom used it to make the petty coat.  Not sure if the under pants were handmade but they are crudely sewn together which leads me to believe they are hand stitched.  The doll has long black stockings as legs.  The shoes are made of two flattened leather pieces and sewn at the edges with a little bit of some kind of stuffing.  This MOM has a baby which I know has always been with the bigger doll.  It too is crudely made.  The face is constructed with a nylon base fabric. The face is sewn into the fabric … and the Hair could be real hair...im not sure.  But the hair is blonde in color then the babies cap is sewn into the head at the top.  The cap is made from a small amount of trim and gathered/sewn in the back.  An orange piece of ribbon is attached to the cap to close it up around the babies neck.  The babies romper is made from a similar piece of fabric the Mom is wearing with a little decorative lace trim and gathered at the bottom.  The babies body has some kind of cloth stuffing.  I am including a wooden clothes pin to hold the baby on the Mom doll to look like she is holding it.  As you can see these two pieces are very ornate and unique.
I am downsizing and I am sure My Mom will allow me to liquidate my collection to follow my dream.  This set needs a good home.  The mom is 8 1/4 inches tall x 5 1/2 inches wide (dress at the bottom)….and the baby measures 3 1/2 inches tall x 1 inch wide.  I have other dolls that I have been collecting for many years.  Check them out
